Oral sedation offers light to moderate sedation to help ease dental anxiety. It involves taking one or two prescribed pills containing sedative medication before a dental procedure or appointment. The initial dose is usually taken about an hour before your dental visit. If needed, an additional dose can be taken the night before the procedure to address anxiety-related insomnia, provided it is approved and recommended by your dentist.
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” can be used as a way to help alleviate anxiety and enhance comfort during dental treatments. Made up of a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide, this form of sedation is administered through a face mask that covers the nose. You simply breathe in the nitrous oxide to help you relax and feel at ease. One of the key advantages of IV sedation is its flexibility; our dentists can adjust the dosage to provide minimal to deep sedation based on your individual needs and preferences. This allows you to either stay awake and aware but pain-free or to experience a deeper level of sedation if desired. Once the procedure is complete, we can administer a different medication to gently wake you, enabling you to resume your day with minimal disruption.
